COURSE GOALS

Growth, development and learning including: cognitive developmental and theories of learning, oral and written language development, typical and atypical physical growth and motor development, social and personal development.
• Social Sciences including: human behavior, family structures, prejudice, tolerance and other coping behaviors.
• Cognitive - Delineate how individuals acquire and process information.
• Physical – Recognize patterns of typical behavior development milestones and how patterns of students with disabilities may be different, and plan effectively for possible accommodations and/or modifications, which may be necessary to implement effective instructional practices.
• Social – Initiate, maintain and manage positive social relationships with a range of people in a range of contexts.

• Behavioral – Recognize patterns of typical milestones and how patterns of students with disabilities may be different
•Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with basic and higher education colleagues, families and community agencies to meet the needs of diverse learners.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is designed to present Educational Psychology as a distinct discipline concerned with understanding the processes of learning and teaching and developing ways of improving these processes. In this course, students will identify and apply knowledge derived from the behavioral sciences to the solutions of educational problems. The course focuses on the psychology and the development of learners, psychosocial principals of learning and motivation, and their applications, and research based classroom management techniques. Emphasis is placed on the effective classroom communication and interpersonal relationships.
